Adam Azim, CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), has stated that the Airport being developed in Alifushi Island of Raa Atoll will be seeing flight landings this year.
Azim made this remark while speaking at the groundbreaking function of the Alifushi Airport Terminal on 05 January.
MTCC is undertaking the Airport Development Project of Alifushi Island.
Speaking at the function, Azim noted that the land reclamation and airport development project of Alifushi island is the biggest project that has been handed over to the company so far. He said that MTCC will do its best to complete all the projects that is handed over to them with utmost diligence.
Azim said that the company and the administration gives a high priority to provide the public with the best and accessible services.
Speaking about the Alifushi airport development project, Azim noted that the terminal development is the hardest work to be completed under the project. He disclosed that land reclamation work of 17 hectares of land to develop the terminal has now been completed.
Azim went on to share that the company will be commencing work of reclaiming land needed for the development of the airport runway, soon.
Hence he highlighted that the Alifushi Airport will be seeing flight landings before the end of the year.
Azim gave the assurance that the company staff will be giving their best to finish the project without any further delays.
Under the scope of the design and build project of Alifushi Airport, MTCC will be reclaiming a total of 50.5 hectares of land in the island. Ten hectares of this land will be allocated for housing projects of the island and 40.5 hectares of land will be used for airport development.
Alifushi Airport will be developed with a 1,200 meters runway, taxiway, apron and a service road.
MTCC will also be doing shore protection of the reclaimed area, with 2,871 meters of revetment and 480 meters of groin.
The value of the land reclamation and airport development project of Alifushi is valued at MVR 451.6 million.
