Members of the Maldives National Association of Construction Industries (MNACI) have shared their concerns regarding the construction industry of Maldives, with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The president met with the MNACI members at the President’s Office on Thursday afternoon.
The meeting saw the MNACI members sharing their concerns regarding the construction sector and the impacts of the global economic downturn.
As such, the members shed light on issues such as high inflation following the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, alongside escalating prices of essential building materials in the global market and ensuring construction companies receive their dues after the projects are completed.
They also shared other financial difficulties faced by the companies with the president, going on to touch down on the challenges facing the real estate industry and the issues in finding laborers.
MNACI President Mohamed Ali Janah assured the president that the association intended on working closely with the administration and acknowledged the incumbent administration’s assistance in resolving issues in the construction industry.
Listening to these concerns, President Solih assured them that he would discuss the issues with relevant ministries.
He noted that the administration is already working to release funds to contractors as soon as possible.
Janah invited the president to attend the 45th Convention of the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors Associations (IFAWPCA) to be held at Paradise Island Resort from November 15 – 19.
The president was also presented with the Dhivehi edition of the report prepared by MNACI on the impact of Covid-19 on the construction sector.
Prepared in seven different languages, the report is regarding the safety standards of the country's construction sector.
