Maldives has confirmed the ninth Covid-19 fatality of February.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as a 77-year-old local woman, who is the ninth Covid-19 victim to have been reported so far in February.
Doctors at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility pronounced her dead at around 03:32 am on Tuesday.
Maldives Covid-19 death toll has risen to 285 with this development.
Three Covid-19 victims were reported on Sunday; a 75-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman, all Maldivians.
The total number of Covid-19 fatalities reported this year has been pushed to 23; 14 victims were confirmed in January.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. June saw 50 Covid-19 fatalities, followed by 10 in July. Five Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed in August and in September. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.
212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
