Two executive members of the World Bank have arrived in the Maldives.

According to the Ministry of Finance, Executive Director and Dean of the Board of Executive Directors Dr. Merza Hasan and Hartwig Schafer, the Vice President of World Bank arrived in the Maldives on Friday.

The World Bank executives were welcomed at the Velana International Airport (VIA) by the officials at the finance ministry as well as employees of the world bank in the Maldives.

The ministry has revealed that both executives are in the Maldives on an official visit.

In a Twitter post following arrival, the World Bank Vice President Schafer expressed keenness to learning more about the post-pandemic challenges and development priorities from the government, partners, private sector and other stakeholders.

In an earlier message, Schafer revealed that his visit will focus around discussions regarding ways through which the digital technology may be used to boost Maldives’ economy.
