Maldives Covid-19 death toll has risen to 240.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that deceased is a 44-year-old Maldivian woman.
She was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of Hulhumalé Medical Facility before being declared dead by doctors at around 3:15am on Thursday.
This comes just a few days after the latest coronavirus fatality was reported. The 239th victim was identified as an 87-year-old local man being treated at the Addu Covid Management Facility. He succumbed to complications of the virus on October 18.
Thursday's death is the ninth Covid-19 victim to have been reported this ongoing month.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
Of the 240 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 190 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus. September also saw five deaths.
