Ilham Adam, one of Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed’s bodyguards injured in the May 6 terror attack, is to undergo a surgery on Tuesday.
Brother of the former president, Nazim Sattar revealed this via Twitter on Monday, adding that Ilham requires the surgery to treat an injury sustained in the attack. Noting that the officer has a herniated disc in the neck, Nazim said that he is to undergo surgery at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Tuesday.
Nasheed was the target of a remote controlled bomb in capital Male’ City on May 6. He had just left his house and was about to get into his car when a bomb attached to a motorbike exploded.
CCTV footage from the scene show the former president’s bodyguards appointed by the Maldives Naitional Defence Force (MNDF) acting quickly, to ensure his safety. They are to have taken Nasheed to the nearest hospital, within a few minutes.
Ilham, along with the remaining bodyguards were also questioned by the parliament’s committee on national security services who is doing an inquiry on the security breach that led to the accident.
