A case where MP for Dhan’gethi constituency Ilham Ahmed threatened parliamentarians has been filed at the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

At an event held to welcome new members to the party, the deputy leader of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) had said that those MPs who vote in favor of impeaching parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh “will be in hot water”.

The case was filed by Nolhivaram constituency MP Hussain Areef.

His complaint notes he believes that MP Ilham had, at around 1 pm on Wednesday, had threatened parliamentarians, and called on the institution to investigate the matter immediately.

Areef had also sent in video evidence to the police.

Thoddoo constituency MP, Ibrahim Hassan said that Ilham has been burnt “as he has been in hot water for too long.”

At Wednesday’s gathering. MP Ilham had said that the goal of the motion submitted against the speaker “is to disrupt the government.”

“Will be in hot water. Anyone of us who takes part in it [impeaching speaker' will be in hot water. No one is all clean,” Ilham had said.

The no-confidence motion against speaker Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed was submitted to parliament on March 7, with 26 signatures, and has been tabled for March 27.

In addition to Maseeh, a no-confidence motion against deputy speaker Moosa Manik was submitted on Wednesday, with 15 signatures.
