Projects to design and build harbors across three islands are proceeding full steam ahead, revealed the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The company revealed that the design and build projects underway in Guraidhoo island of Thaa atoll, Feydhoo island of Shaviyani atoll and Miladhoo island of Noonu atoll are well underway.

As such, the harbor upgrade project in Guraidhoo island has been completed by 40 percent, with MTCC having completed the installation work of pre-cast concrete blocks that were required to construct a quay wall.

Under the project, MTCC is tasked with dredging 16,533 cubic meters of land, installing a breakwater along 208 meters, revetment along 22 meters, an inner quay wall along 370 meters as well as the installation of a 370-meter pavement.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted the project to MTCC on 1 October 2019, valued at MVR 46.01 million.

Further, MTCC also revealed that they are currently working on the basin dredging work for the design and build project of Feydhoo island’s harbor.

Under the project, MTCC is tasked with installing a breakwater measuring 387 meters, inner way of 280 meters, a ramp as well as a 1,400-meter-long pavement. Further, MTCC will also be planting 10 mooring blocks, dredging 18,500 cubic meters of the harbor and an additional 9,000 cubic meters. Two navigational lights and 14 harbor lights will also be installed under the project.

The island council revealed that they expect the completion of the project to provide eases for travel as well as concerns risen by crewmen.

The project, valued at MVR 33.1 million was contracted to the company on 29 December 2019, to be completed within 480 days.

In addition, MTCC revealed that they have completed 40 percent of the harbor design and build project in Miladhoo island of Noonu atoll.

MTCC will be dredging 37,222 cubic meters of the harbor as well as installing a quay wall measuring 248 meters, revetment stretching up to 137 meters and a pavement measuring 1,430 meters. The company will also install 10 mooring blocks, 14 harbor lights two navigational lights under the contract.

The company is currently working on the construction of a breakwater under the project.

Contracted to the company by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on 25 September 2019, the project is priced at MVR 42.1 million.
