The only current development is a bridge project while previously promised initiatives for roads, schools, and healthcare remain unstarted

As the current government approaches its second year in power, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he will address the concerns raised by the council, despite no development work having been initiated in Thoddoo island of Alif Alif atoll, yet.

During his ongoing tour of Alif Alif atoll, the president met with the Thoddoo Council, Women's Development Committee (WDC), and leaders of some local institutions on Wednesday afternoon.

During Wednesday’s meeting, the council expressed their desire to start seaplane services with a terminal, and requested to upgrade the existing health center to a hospital-level facility, considering the growing population and expanding tourism sector. The school representatives shared the challenges they face due to lack of space and the absence of a science laboratory.

Although the council presented numerous issues, the president said he would look into the matters highlighted by the council. Through the ministers and state company executives who participated in the meeting, he shared up-to-date information on the ongoing projects in the island.

So far, the current administration has not initiated any new development work in Thoddoo. The sewerage system that the president officially inaugurated in Thoddoo was a project started during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration. The only new project signed during the president's current trip is the development of a bridge on the southern side of Thoddoo.

During the election campaign, he had promised to do many things for the island. In his last trip to Thoddoo, speaking on 8 December 2024, he stated that road construction, school expansion, health center development and expansion, and waste management were essential needs for Thoddoo.

However, the practical work on any of these projects has not yet begun.
