Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has shared his outlooks on a sustainable path to recovery from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, with members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations.
On Thursday, the minister held a virtual interaction with the OIC members at UN, where a number of Permanent Representatives and representatives from OIC Members States participated.
During the interaction, the foreign minister briefed participants on his perspectives on sustainable development as well as the revival of the UN General Assembly’s work.
Maldives has joined OIC Member States in voicing concerns over issues relating to rights of women and children, Islamophobia, terrorism and the rights of the Muslim communities across the globe including in Palestine, alongside issues linked to sustainable development, climate change and public health, since becoming a proud Member State of the organization in 1976, FM Shahid said.
Since inception in 1969, the OIC has encouraged Member States into a unified body, added the minister, who stated that the organization has “always” stood up for matters close to the hearts of over 1.5 million Muslims across the globe.
FM Shahid also shed light on the importance of working together in order to strengthen the multilateral system as well as international cooperation, during the meeting.
