Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to the Republic of Maldives Dominik Furgler has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Swiss Ambassador called on Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

Congratulating Ambassador Furgler on the thriving completion of his tenure, FM Shahid expressed sincere gratitude for his hard work in strengthening the friendly relations between the Maldives and Switzerland.

Discussions at the meeting touched upon ways to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries in areas of trade and economic cooperation.

FM Shahid and Ambassador Furgler went on to shed light on the strong partnership between the two countries, in the multilateral fora.

Sunday’s meeting also saw the Swiss Ambassador informing FM Shahid of the decision by the Swiss government to join the VFS Visa Center in Malé with which the visa application process for Maldivians traveling to Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia and Liechtenstein will be facilitated.

The Maldivian minister expressed gratitude to the Swiss ambassador and government, for this decision.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef, Bilateral Secretary Dr. Hala Hameed, Secretary of Economic Cooperation Dr. Hussain Niyaaz and Desk Officer Aminath Shaistha Hamdan Zaki.
