A new Consul General of Maldives in Thiruvananthapuram of neighboring India, has been appointed.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Aminath Shifana was appointed to the post on Thursday.

Shifana was presented with her Letter of Appointment as the new Consul General of Maldives in Thiruvananthapuram, by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid during a ceremony held at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a Twitter post following the ceremony, FM Shahid wished Shifana success in her new role and expressed confidence that as a serving Foreign Service officer and her diverse experience will prove invaluable as she takes on the post.

The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the outgoing Consul General Aminath Abdulla Didi for her successful tenure as the first female Consul General.

During the meeting held after the ceremony, FM Shahid also welcomed the outgoing Consul General who will be returning to take the role as Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In December 2019, Aminath Abdulla Didi was appointed as the first female Consul General of Maldives in Thiruvananthapuram, India.

Shifana served as Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to her recent appointment.

Other positions she filled include Permanent Secretary and several other roles at the Foreign Ministry since first joining the ministry in 1999.

Shifana has diverse experience in administration and human resource management.
