Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has met with his counterpart from Bangladesh, Minister Dr. A.K. Momen, under whose invitation a Maldivian delegation is currently in Dhaka for bilateral talks.
Minister Shahid and his team left the Maldives for Dhaka on Monday for the two-day official visit.
Minister Shahid and Minister Momen discussed close the close relationship between the Maldives and neighboring Bangladesh, touching down on key topics of interests which represented avenues for bilateral collaboration between the two nations.
The two ministers held a joint press conference following the conclusion of their meeting.
In addition to this, two Memorandums of Understanding were signed between the Maldives and Bangladesh at the meeting, relating to the placement of Human Resources, in addition to one involving the Foreign Services Institute of Maldives and the Foreign Services Academy of Bangladesh.
The Maldivian foreign minister also called on Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday.

During the call held at Ganabhaban, Minister Shahid conveyed warm greetings from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to the Prime Minister.
Minister Shahid expressed appreciation to the Government of Bangladesh for its continued support to the Maldives, and especially for the assistance extended in addressing the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. He further reaffirmed Maldives’ support to Bangladesh on issues of mutual concern including the plight of the Rohingya people and climate change.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured that the Government of Bangladesh will continue to work closely with the Government of Maldives to strengthen the relations between the two countries.
Minister Shahid is also expected to pay a courtesy call on President MD Abdul Hamid of Bangladesh.
