Of the 4,716 samples tested for the infection on Tuesday, 154 tested positive from the Greater Male' Region, 11 samples from inhabited islands and an additional 27 samples from operational resorts were confirmed to be positive cases.

As of 6pm Tuesday, authorities have tested a total of 442,549 samples for Covid-19 in the Maldives, and the nation's total Covid-19 tally now sits at 17,101 with active cases at 2,216.

On Tuesday, a 77-year-old local male admitted at the GA Covid Management Facility passed away while being treated for the infection on Tuesday, making it the 56th Covid-19 in the Maldives thus far.

The number of people receiving in-hospital treatment for the infection has remained unchanged between Monday and Tuesday with 204 persons admitted in hospital with Covid-19. An additional 50 recoveries from the virus were reported in the Maldives over the past day, bringing the number of total recoveries observed from Covid-19 in the county up to 14,822.

The Maldives' Covid-19 outlook continues to worsen as more new cases are being reported everyday, especially in the congested capital of Male'. Authorities have warned that the nation's already strained healthcare system could become overburdened if the spread of the virus is not controlled.

Curfews and vehicle movement restriction orders have been implemented in the cities of Male' and Addu in a bid to prevent the spread of the infection. The islands of Thinadhoo and Fuvahmulah have also been placed under monitoring following the discovery of positive cases of Covid-19 on the islands.

A nation-wide mask mandate came into effect in the Maldives on Sunday, as part of the measures which were successful in clamping down on the first and second waves of the pandemic, which have been re-enacted by authorities to control what is quickly becoming a devastating third wave.

The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) encourages all members of the public to practice caution in adhering to the health and safety regulations set forth by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), in their efforts to control this spread of the virus.
