The island of AA. Mathiveri has been placed under monitoring, with travel to and from the island restricted, following confirmation of Covid-19 cases.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has since issued a lockdown order for the island to Mathiveri Council. Effective Sunday, no persons can travel to and from Mathiveri until the state of monitoring on the island has been lifted.

The order also details that the island of AA. Mathiveri was now on monitoring status, as per the powers afforded to the Director General of Public Health under the Public Health Protection Act under the state of public health emergency declared in light of the prevailing situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

HPA has also tasked Mathiveri Island Council with appointing coordinators who will be working with health authorities and other related government institutions to monitor the status of Mathiveri island, and support efforts being made to control the spread of Covid-19.

The island of AA. Mathiveri was brought under monitoring after two children, who came into contact with a group observing home quarantine on the island, tested positive for the Covid-19 infection.
