Maldives reported 50 new cases of the global Covid-19 infection on Monday.

The 50 new infections were confirmed from the 3,129 samples tested between 6pm Sunday and 6pm Monday.

A majority of the new infections were reported from operational resorts, where 28 new cases were detected.

Further, 19 cases were discovered from the Greater Malé Region and three from residential islands.

With this development, the total number of coronavirus cases detected in the island nation since it surfaced on March 7, sits at 14,159.

Further, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported a total of 29 additional recoveries from the infection, which means that a total of 13,365 virus-stricken patients have observed full recoveries thus far.

The new developments push the total number of active coronavirus cases in the island nation from 717 to 738, out of which 54 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment. This means that two additional patients were hospitalized over the course of the past 24 hours.

Healthcare officials have collected a total of 345,551 samples for Covid-19 testing in the island nation.

This is the second time daily infections have surged over 50 over the course of the past week. Healthcare authorities have stressed on the rising concern of spiraling cases over the past few days, at a time HPA had been successfully containing the second peak of coronavirus cases since the lockdown was lifted in late May.

While the pandemic has claimed 49 lives in the island nation thus far, RaajjeMV understands that Maldives will receive Covid-19 vaccination by the end of the ongoing month.

Until then, the healthcare authorities urge the public to strictly adhere to safety measures in place, for the safety and protection of all from the fatal infection, as it may still take a while for the people to return to their normal lives, after a majority of the population is vaccinated against the pandemic, which surfaced from Wuhan City of China’s Hubei Province during December 2019.
