Maldives reported 37 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new infections were confirmed out of the 2,444 samples tested between 6pm Tuesday and 6pm Wednesday.
A majority of the case; 26, were detected in the Greater Malé Region, whereas seven were discovered in operational resorts, three in liveaboard vessels and one in a residential island.
With this development, the total number of coronavirus cases in the Maldives has reached 13,967.
The public health authority reported the lowest daily recoveries confirmed in days, by sundown on Wednesday, at eight.
With the eight additional recoveries, a total of 13,225 virus-stricken patients in the island nation have fully recovered from the pandemic in the island nation.
Out of the 687 active coronavirus cases, 40 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment. This means that over the past 24 hours, one of the hospitalized patients had been discharged after treatment.
The Covid-19 mortality rate in the country is at 0.35 percent, with 48 patients succumbing to complications.
Over the last one-week period, public health officials reported 229 Covid-19 infections, with the lowest daily rise in numbers having been reported on December 31. Since the beginning of the new year, daily cases have been well above 25, the highest rise in daily numbers over the week was reported on Friday, where 47 new cases were confirmed.
