19 out of the 2,455 samples tested for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, have tested positive.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that 14 of the new cases were confirmed in the Greater Malé Region, whereas the remaining five were detected from residential islands.
With this development, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country has been pushed to 13,757.
Further, 16 additional Covid-19 patients are to have made full recoveries between 6pm Wednesday and 6pm Thursday, which means that a total of 13,141 virus-stricken patients in the Maldives have recovered thus far.
Out of the 561 active coronavirus infection across the country, 27 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment. This is two less than the previous day.
Maldives mortality rate currently sits at 0.35 percent, with the pandemic having claimed 48 lives in the island nation, since it surfaced from a resort on March 7.
Although the first few cases of the pandemic surfaced from a resort, the first case of community transmission was confirmed in the Maldives capital on April 15, which resulted in a full lockdown across the region as well as a partial lockdown across residential islands, with the implementation of travel restrictions.
Over a month later, authorities began lifting the lockdown, which was proven to be effective, in phases. Once the third phase of the ease plan came into effect, cases began spiraling, after which authorities imposed a curfew in the capital region. The curfew has since been lifted, and authorities still continue its appeal on the public to mindfully adhere to safety guidelines, in order to prevent a second Covid-19 wave.
