Maldives Covid-19 tally has reached 13,537, with 13 new infections reported on Wednesday.
Out of the 2,455 samples tested between 6pm Tuesday and 6pm Wednesday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed 13 individuals to have tested positive for the pandemic over the past 24 hours, most of which are from the Greater Malé Region, where seven new cases were identified.
Five cases were confirmed from operational resorts and one from a residential island.
Further, the country has observed a total of 12,983 recoveries from the pandemic, with the 23 additional recoveries reported on Wednesday.
Out of the 499 active coronavirus cases in the Maldives, 39 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment, which is two less than the previous day.
Due to complications, 48 Covid-19 patients have succumbed to the infection in the island nation thus far.
Over the course of the past week, the highest rise in daily cases was 30 new infections reported on Saturday. The least number of cases to have been reported in months was reported on Monday, where eight individuals tested positive for coronavirus.
Maldives confirmed the first case of community transmission in the capital region on April 15, resulting in a full-lockdown across the region. In May, authorities began easing the lockdown in phases, despite which cases spiraled once the third phase of the lockdown easing plan came into effect. This was followed by the implementation of more safety measures against the spread of the virus. Since then, daily infections have been decreasing, gradually.
