Maldives reported 23 new infections of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic on Tuesday.
Nightly statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) reveal that the new cases have pushed the country’s Covid-19 tally to 13,524.
The new infections were confirmed out of the 2,404 samples tested between 6pm Monday and 6pm Tuesday.
14 of the 23 new cases were confirmed in the Greater Malé Region, seven in operational resorts and two in residential islands.
In addition, the public health authority also confirmed 31 additional patients to have made full recoveries from the virus by sundown on Tuesday.
With this development, Maldives recovery rate stands at 95.83 percent, with a total of 12,960 recoveries having been reported since the outbreak in March.
Out of the 509 active coronavirus cases in the Maldives currently, 108 patients have been transferred to isolation facilities, whereas 41 patients are hospitalized for treatment. This is one more than the previous day.
Out of the 509 active cases, 370 active cases are in the capital Malé City, while 62 are in operational resorts.
HPA revealed that there are 37 active cases in outlying atolls, 25 in islands under development and 12 in liveaboard vessels.
Further, there are three active infections in industrial islands as well.
Contributing 62.95 percent of the Covid-19 tally, a total of 8,513 Maldivians have contracted the virus in the Maldives thus far. Second highest is the Bangladeshi community, where 3,300 cases have been confirmed, making up 24.40 percent of the virus count.
Maldives Covid-19 death toll sits at 48 deaths, with the mortality rate at 0.35 percent.
Most of the cases confirmed in Maldives; 9,293 are men, with 4,211 women having tested positive for the infection.
