With 30 new Covid-19 infections reported over the past 24 hours, Maldives Covid-19 tally has risen to 13,474.
Nightly statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new cases were confirmed out of the 3,768 samples tested between 6pm Friday and 6pm Saturday, this is the highest daily rise to have been reported in days.
Out of the 30 new infections, 10 were reported in the Greater Malé Region, seven from islands under development, five from operational resorts, six from residential islands and one each from an industrial island and liveaboard vessel.
Statistics go on to reveal that 43 additional recoveries were also reported by sundown on Saturday, which means that the country has seen a total of 12,878 recoveries from the pandemic thus far.
Out of the 541 active coronavirus cases, 47 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment, same as Friday.
Healthcare workers in the island nation have collected 286,354 samples for Covid-19 testing thus far.
Over the last week, Maldives reported a total of 126 Covid-19 cases, the greatest daily increase in infections having been reported on Saturday. The lowest daily count was reported on Wednesday, where public health authorities confirmed just 10 new infections out of the 2,297 samples tested that day.
With the virus having claimed 48 lives in the island nation thus far, Maldives mortality rate is at 0.36 percent.
Covid-19 cases being reported daily in the country have been declining gradually in the past few weeks, in light of which the authorities have been easing restrictions in place, recently having lifted the nighttime curfew of 12am to 4am in the Maldives capital as well.
Authorities promise to introduce more eases to Covid-19 restrictions, however, they continue their appeal on the public to strictly adhere to safety guidelines and instructions as the virus is far from being controlled in the Maldives.
