Maldives has reported a total of 13,368 Covid-19 cases since March, with 20 new infections on Sunday.
The 20 cases were confirmed from the 2,035 samples tested within 24 hours, and include 15 from the greater Male’ region and two, each, from an inhabited island and operation resort as well as one from a liveaboard vessel.
While this pushes the country’s Covid-19 tally to 13,368, with 47 additional recoveries reported on Sunday, a total of 12,706 patients have recovered from the virus.
There are 607 active coronavirus cases in the island nation. 498 of the cases are in the greater Male' region while 39 are in residential islands, 48 in tourist establishments including nine in liveaboard vessels, 21 in islands under development and one in an industrial island.
While 48 deaths have been recorded thus far, there are 67 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals.
While Maldives' first Covid-19 cases were confirmed from a resort in March, a community transmission was detected on April 15. This led to a complete lockdown in the capital, as well as a partial lockdown across the country with travel between islands banned.
Lockdown easing began in late May, and there was a second surge in cases after the island nation entered the third phase in mid-July. However, there has been a gradual decline in cases since September.
While the highest daily rise in December thus far was reported on the sixth, 39 cases, the highest daily increase in months was announced on November 23; 150 new infections.
