Maldives reports 35 new cases of the coronavirus infection on Wednesday.

While the cases were confirmed from the 1,728 samples tested within 24 hours, it pushes the country’s Covid-19 tally to 12,889.

With an additional 36 recoveries reported, 11,717 patients have recovered from the virus thus far. There has been 46 deaths.

There are 1,119 active coronavirus cases across the island nation, with 817 of the cases in the greater Male’ region. Further, there are 16 active cases is outlying atolls, 89 cases in tourist establishments, 196 cases in island under development and one active case in a industrial island.

Patients receiving treatment at hospitals remain the same as the past two days; at 95.

8,053 Maldivians have tested positive for Covid-19 since April.

While Maldives first Covid-19 cases were confirmed from resorts in March, a community transmission was confirmed on April 15. This led to a complete lockdown in the capital, as well as a partial lockdown across the country with travel between islands banned.

The travel ban was part of the efforts to ensure the virus does not spread among island communities, and while people are now allowed to travel to islands, there is a mandatory 14-day quarantine period after traveling from the capital.
