26 new cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic were confirmed in the Maldives on Thursday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the cases detected include 16 Maldivians and 10 foreigners.
Maldives Covid-19 tally currently sits at 12,085 with this development.
Only one of the new cases were confirmed in a residential island or resort, whereas the remaining of Thursday’s cases were detected from the greater Malé region.
Thursday’s cases were confirmed out of the 1,444 samples tested from 6pm Wednesday to 6pm Thursday.
With 26 additional recoveries confirmed by 6pm Thursday, Maldives has seen a total of 11,225 recoveries from the infection thus far. This means that the country currently has 812 active coronavirus cases, this number remains unchanged from Wednesday.
While there were 49 patients hospitalized for treatment the previous day, this number rose to 52 on Thursday.
There are currently 234 patients seeking treatment at isolation facilities.
Statistics go on to reveal that there are 14 active virus cases across 10 residential islands including 11 foreigners and three Maldivians.
Out of the 187 active cases across 25 tourist resorts, 54 are tourists and 133 are resort workers.
Despite the number of Covid-19 cases being reported of recent has been declining, the public health authorities continue its appeal to the people to adhere to safety guidelines and precautionary measures that are in place to prevent further spread of the virus.
