Maldives reported 24 new cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic on Sunday.
Statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) reveal that the new cases include 18 Maldivians and six foreigners.
Six of the new cases were reported from residential islands and resorts, whereas the majority; 18 cases were reported from the greater Malé region.
Authorities confirmed the new cases out of the 1,392 samples tested between 6pm Saturday and 6pm Sunday.
Maldives Covid-19 tally currently sits at 11,986 with this development.
With 29 additional recoveries reported by sundown on Sunday, the total number of recoveries in the Maldives has been pushed to 11,092.
Out of the 847 active cases of the infection, 226 patients are currently seeking treatment at isolation facilities.
While there were 50 patients hospitalized for treatment on Saturday, the number increased to 60 by Sunday.
HPA also revealed that there are 19 active coronavirus cases across 14 residential islands, including five Maldivians and 14 foreigners.
The number of active coronavirus cases among resort workers is at 138, there are active cases across 26 resorts, including 52 tourists.
Maldives reported the 40th death from Covid-19 on Sunday evening as well, when an 43-year-old Bangladeshi man brought in an “unresponsive state” to the Hulhumalé Hospital on Sunday morning was declared dead upon arrival, at 7:25am.
The Health emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed that they had conducted PCR testing on the deceased as per protocol and he tested positive for the virus.
This makes him the 40th victim to the global pandemic, in the island nation.
