Maldives confirmed 36 new cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic, on Monday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that a majority of the new cases were detected in the Maldives capital region, including 21 Maldivians and 15 foreigners.
31 of the new cases were detected in the greater Malé region, whereas the remaining five were discovered from residential islands.
Monday’s cases were confirmed from the 1,318 samples tested between 6pm Sunday to 6pm Monday.
With this development, the country’s total Covid-19 case count has been pushed to 11,737.
With 33 additional recoveries reported by 6pm Monday, the country has observed a total of 10,916 recoveries from coronavirus, thus far.
Maldives currently has 776 active coronavirus cases, out of which 228 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities, which is 15 less than the previous day. Further, there are 56 patients hospitalized for Covid-19 treatment, currently.
The active cases in residential islands dropped significantly over the past 24 hours, as such, there are 15 active Covid-19 cases across 13 residential islands, including 11 foreigners and just four local cases.
With this being said, the number of Covid-19 infections reported among resort workers has been increasing significantly, as such, there are active Covid-19 cases in 31 resorts including 43 tourists and 97 resorts workers.
Public health authorities continue to urge the public to be mindful of precautionary measures and health safety guidelines, despite a drop in cases being reported over the past few weeks.
