A man has been arrested under accusations of sexually assaulting a minor, in an island of Dhaalu atoll.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the sexual assault case was reported from an island in the central province, consisting of Meemu, Faafu and Dhaalu atolls on October 23.
Under a court order, police arrested a 49-year-old man on Saturday night under accusations of assaulting his 13-year-old daughter.
The man is accused of sexually assaulting the child, while remaining in a reliable position.
The case is under further investigation.
Earlier, the police institution revealed that they will investigate cases related to violence and assault against children, very seriously.
