A foreign teacher has been arrested in Meedhoo island of Dhaalu Atoll, for sexually assaulting a student.
Media official at Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed to RaajjeMV that an expatriate was arrested in Dhaalu Meedhoo after alleged sexual abuse of minor, but refrained from confirming details of the case.
He was issued a three-day remand period.
A staff member at Dhaalu Atoll Education Centre also confirmed to RaajjeMV that a teacher, an Indian man, was arrested for sexually abusing a minor under a court order on Thursday, adding that the case was filed at the police on Wednesday.
According to the teacher who spoke to RaajjeMV, the Education Centre, together with the Ministry of Education had tried to send the accused teacher to the capital Malé City after reports surfaced of him abusing a student, emphasizing was arrested while boarding a launch to Malé.
RaajjeMV was told that “since his arrest, there have been reports of him abusing more students”.
