Maldives reported 27 new cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic, on Friday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new cases include 16 Maldivians and 11 foreigners.
18 cases were detected in the greater Malé region whereas the remaining nine cases were discovered from residential islands.
The public health authority confirmed Friday’s cases out of the 1,776 samples tested between 6pm Thursday and 6pm Friday.
With this development, the island nation’s Covid-19 case count has risen to 11,643.
46 additional recoveries were also reported by sundown on Friday, which means that the total number of Covid-19 recoveries in Maldives has been pushed to 10,779.
Out of the 820 active coronavirus cases currently, there are 259 patients receiving treatment at isolation facilities, which is 10 less than the previous day. In addition, there are 54 virus-stricken patients hospitalized for treatment.
Out of the 32 active coronavirus cases across 20 residential islands, 20 are Maldivians and 12 are foreigners. There are active cases in 26 resorts, including 37 tourists and 82 resort workers. This means that seven resort workers who contracted the virus, have recovered over the past 24 hours.
The ongoing pandemic has claimed 37 lives in the island nation thus far.
