Covid-19: Maldives reports 30 new cases, 44 recoveries

Maldives reported 30 new cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic on Saturday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new cases include 18 Maldivians and 12 foreigners.

23 of the new cases were detected in the greater Malé region and the remaining seven were discovered from residential islands.

Saturday's cases were confirmed out of the 1,355 samples collected from 6pm Friday to 6pm Saturday.

Maldives Covid-19 tally has risen to 11,421 with this development.

Authorities also reported 44 additional recoveries from the infection on Saturday, which pushed the total number of coronavirus-stricken patients who have observed full recoveries, to 10,472.

Maldives currently has 905 active cases of the virus, out of which 321 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities, which is eight less than the previous day.

Further, 39 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment. During Saturday night’s press briefing, the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC)’s spokesperson, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq revealed that one patient is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hulhumalé Medical Facility. None of the 39 hospitalized patients are currently on ventilator support.

There are 47 active cases of the virus across 22 residential islands and 23 resorts including 27 tourists and 34 resort workers. The active cases in residential islands include 37 Maldivians and 10 foreigners.

Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Dhaal atoll is the only island where monitoring measures are currently in place.
