Maldives reports 33 new Covid-19 infections, 45 recoveries

33 additional cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic have been discovered in the Maldives.

Nightly statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new cases include 20 Maldivians and 13 foreigners.

24 out of the 33 new cases were detected in the greater Malé region, whereas the remaining nine were discovered from residential islands.

Friday’s cases were confirmed out of the 1,570 samples tested within the past 24 hours. Maldives coronavirus tally currently sits at 11,391, with this development.

Over 7,200 cases are local cases, which is 64 percent of the Covid-19 tally and the remaining 36 percent is foreign infections, out of which over 2,900 cases accounting for 26 percent of the tally is Bangladeshi nationals.

680 Indian nationals are also to have tested positive for the infection in Maldives, which is six percent of the total cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

The public health authority also reported 45 additional recoveries from the virus, which pushes the total number of Covid-19 recoveries to 10,428. This number accounts for 90 percent of the total case count.

Out of the 919 active cases of the virus, 329 patients are currently seeking treatment at isolation facilities, this amount is 11 patients less than the previous day. Further, 38 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment.

There are 46 active cases of the virus across 21 residential islands and 23 resorts including 22 tourist and 34 resort workers. The active cases in residential islands include 40 Maldivians and six foreigners.

Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Dhaal atoll is the only island where monitoring measures are currently in place.
