Covid-19: Maldives reports 41 new cases, 64 recoveries

41 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the Maldives.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed on Friday night that the new cases include 37 Maldivians and four foreigners.

34 cases were detected in the greater Malé region whereas the remaining seven were confirmed from residential islands.

The new cases were confirmed from the 1,366 samples tested between 6pm Thursday and 6pm Friday.

With this development, the country’s Covid-19 case count currently sits at 11,154.

Nightly statistics publicized by the public health authority also revealed that the total number of recoveries in the island nation has risen to 9,995 with the 64 additional recoveries reported by 6pm, Friday.

Maldives currently has 1,117 active cases of the virus, out of which 384 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities.

In comparison to the previous day, the number of hospitalized patients saw a decline by Friday, from 54 to 41.

There are active cases of the virus in 20 residential islands and 19 resorts, with the inclusion of 15 tourists and 25 resort workers. The number of active cases in residential islands has also dropped in comparison to Thursday. As such, there are 69 active cases, out of which 60 are Maldivians and the remaining nine, foreigners.

All of the coronavirus-stricken patients from Gan island of Seenu atoll except two, have recovered from the virus.

Kadhdhoo island in Laamu atoll currently has the greatest number of active cases; 30.
