The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has refuted claims that cases sent for prosecution were returned due to poor investigative work.

During a meeting held with the parliament committee on independent institutions on Wednesday the President of the commission, Mariyam Shiuna revealed that they do not believe it is a problem that the cases they send for duty prosecution at the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) are returned to them. This was in response to a question posed by members regarding complaints that the commission’s work is reckless.

As such, Shiuna revealed that she does not believe the cases are sent back due to mistakes or because they are incomplete. She said that they were sent back for amendments and highlighted that this was the process.

Complaints of ACC’s negligence began surfacing after the PGO sent back cases seeking charges against two former finance ministers and a deputy tourism minister, part of convicted former president Yameen's government, saying the investigations were incomplete.

Shiuna stressed that they had engaged in discussions with the PGO on several occasions in connection to the case and that the case was concluded under the instructions and recommendations from the PGO.
