Maldives confirmed 50 new cases of the Covid-19 pandemic on Tuesday.
Nightly statistics released by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that 46 cases were detected from the greater Malé region while four cases were discovered from residential islands.
Tuesday’s cases were confirmed from the 1,389 samples collected between 6pm Monday to 6pm Tuesday.
The new cases include 48 Maldivians and two foreigners.
With this development, the country’s Covid-19 case count has been pushed to 10,993.
Further, the public health authority also reported 50 additional recoveries from the virus by sundown on Tuesday. This means that a total of 9,833 coronavirus-stricken patients have seen full recoveries thus far.
Maldives currently has 1,118 active cases of the infection, out of which 384 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities.
67 patients are hospitalized for treatment.
Statistics also revealed that there are active cases of the virus in 20 residential islands and 18 resorts, with the inclusion of 10 tourists and 19 resort workers. There are 152 active cases across islands in total, with 89 local cases and 63 foreigners
The greatest number of active cases is currently in Kadhdhoo island of Laamu atoll, 58, followed by Addu City’s Gan district, at 55.
