Maldives reported 51 new cases of the coronavirus pandemic on Saturday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed via its nightly publication that 35 Maldivians and 16 foreigners tested positive to the virus.
With this development, the country’s Covid-19 tally has been pushed to 10,859.
44 cases were detected from the greater Malé region whereas seven cases were detected from residential islands.
Saturday’s cases were confirmed from the 1,338 samples tested from 6pm Friday to 6pm Saturday.
Further, HPA also reported 29 additional recoveries from the virus which means that a total of 9,683 virus-stricken patients have recovered from the infection in the island nation since the first few cases were reported from a resort, on March 7.
Maldives currently has 1,135 active cases of the infection, out of which 376 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities nationwide.
74 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment.
The public health authority also revealed that there are active cases of the virus in 22 residential islands and 20 resorts, with the inclusion of 10 tourists and 17 resort workers. There are 153 active cases across residential islands in total, with 89 local cases and 64 foreigners.
