Maldives confirmed 54 additional cases of the Covid-19 pandemic on Tuesday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that 52 out of the new cases were discovered from the greater Malé region whereas two were discovered from residential islands.
The new cases are out of the 1,488 samples tested from 6pm Monday to 6pm Tuesday and include 45 Maldivians and nine foreigners.
This has pushed the country’s Covid-19 tally to 10,621.
39 recoveries were also reported on Tuesday, which means that a total of 9,466 virus-stricken patients have recovered in the island nation.
As of 6pm Tuesday, 68 patients are hospitalized for treatment and 407 are seeking treatment at isolation facilities, this is 25 less than the previous day.

Since the government entered the third phase of lockdown easing in July, the virus has spread across residential islands as well, as individuals were permitted to travel from the virus’s epicenter, the greater Malé region to outlying islands.
As such, there are active cases of the virus in 22 residential islands and 20 resorts, with the inclusion of 10 tourists and 15 resort workers. There are 124 active cases across islands in total, with 59 local cases and 65 foreigners.
The most number of active cases are currently in Kahdhoo island of Laamu atoll, at 35.
