The Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes has begun responding to complaints received regarding the temporary list of flat applicants under the ‘Hiyaa’ public housing scheme, in four categories.
The process began following the expiration of the deadline for submitting complaints.
On August 24, the committee publicized the temporary list of applicants for flats under categories housing for doctors and nurses (H4), housing for teachers (H5), housing for Malé City residents (H8) and housing for persons with disabilities and family (H10).
The opportunity to submit complaints was opened through the committee’s complaints portal and the deadline was set at 3pm, September 14.
The government received a total of 3,068 submissions during this period.
The complaints comprise of:
- 2,430 regarding point allocation
- 140 contesting point allocation for other names on the temporary lists
- 57 individuals contesting the eligibility criteria for flats
- 85 due to information provided under the ‘other comments’ section
- 78 submitted as clarifications
- 278 miscellaneous
According to the committee, a final list for the four categories will be released only after reviewing the complaints received through the portal when the opportunity was opened.
The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Mohamed Aslam earlier revealed that it will take eight months before the flats are habitable.
Launched during the administration of incarcerated former president Abdulla Yameen to initially provide 7,000 housing units, the Hiyaa flats are located in Phase Two of Hulhumalé. However, the amount was reduced to 6,720 in order to set up commercial areas on the ground floor of each tower.
