Maldives has confirmed another death from Covid-19.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that a 60-year-old Maldivian man who was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hulhumalé Medical Facility passed away at around 6:24pm.

This comes less than 24 hours since a 58-year-old Maldivian man from a quarantine facility in Kelaa island of Haa Alif atoll, succumbed while undergoing treatment for cancer at the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, at around 8:15pm on Tuesday.

In a Twitter post shortly after the 30th death was confirmed, the authority revealed that the death is “considered” a Covid-19 death.

The Kelaa-native is to have been under home isolation after travelling from Maldives capital Malé City. Authorities made it mandatory for travellers from the capital to quarantine for a period of 14-days, following a drastic surge in cases being reported in the region.

The man’s health is to have deteriorated following which he was transferred to the Kulhudhuffushi isolation facility.

It was earlier revealed that his samples tested positive for Covid-19.

Maldives death toll from Covid-19 currently sits at 31.

The deaths have been reported over a week since the 29th death was reported at the beginning of September when a 79-year-old Maldivian man succumbed to the infection.

While the country’s Covid-19 case count currently sits at 8,741, authorities have been reported less than 100 cases for days, after a while since over 100 daily cases had been reported since the authorities entered the third phase of lockdown easing in July.

The number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients has also been decreasing, with 139 hospitalized for treatment by Tuesday.

Health authorities have predicted cases to drop significantly in the near future, to the end of the ongoing month.
