A one-month-old boy who tested positive for Covid-19 is being treated in the intensive care unit.
The baby tested positive from Kudahuvadhoo island in Dhaalu atoll, along with his parents and three-year-old sibling.
While the baby was moved to the Covid-19 treatment facility in Gan island of Laamu atoll on Saturday, Gan Regional Hospital’s managing director Ali Nasheed told RaajjeMV that the baby was moved there due to vomiting and given the possibility that his condition could worsen.
However, Nasheed emphasized that he is in stable condition.
The baby’s mother is at the facility with him.
The family tested positive for coronavirus last Monday while under home quarantine; those traveling from the capital to outlying islands are required to undergo a 14-day quarantine period, and those found in violation are being fined up to MVR 5,000.
The island council president, Ahmed Shaam told RaajjeMV that the family had arrived on the island about 20 days ago. While those undergoing home quarantine are released after testing negative to Covid-19, the family is to have tested positive during this process.
Further noting that random sample testing was done on the island two days prior, Shaam said that all 25 samples came back negative.
He added that the island’s situation is now normal as well.
