MP Ameeth to be removed from PPM
In a tweet on Sunday night, MP Ameeth said that it was his moral and ‘national’ duty to oust Maseeh

Maduvvari MP, representing the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is to be removed from the party.

He was removed from the party's parliamentary group earlier on Monday, after he revealed that he will be voting 'no' for Maseeh.

In a tweet on Sunday night, MP Ameeth said that it was his moral and ‘national’ duty to oust Maseeh.

Speaking after the parliament session on Monday, PPM's PG leader Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik said that the party has decided to dismiss Ameeth from the party, and that the matter has been sent to the ethic's committee.

After Ameeth revealed intentions to vote against the speaker, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom praised the MPs courage. He was also seen actively taking part in the opposition movement during Monday's parliament session.

On Sunday, PPm council held a meeting where they decided to remove Maumoon, the party's leader and founder.

The former President dismissed the attempts, saying the “Daarubaaru” faction- President Abdulla Yameen's faction- “has not legal standing and cannot dismiss members from PPM”.
