Ibrahim Haneef, a deputy to the Education Minister accused of attempting to murder a High Court judge, has been moved to house arrest.
RaajjeMV can confirm that Haneef was given 15 days in house arrest after the Criminal Court had extended his remand three times thus far.
Haneef was arrested on April 4th for conspiring to assassinate the Judge Shujau Usman hours after officers summoned him to the police station and confiscated his phone. He was removed from his position on the 11th of April.
The High Court had previously ruled that due to the nature of the allegations against Haneef, and due to the evidence already acquired against him, his release from remand would be dangerous. Thus, it had then upheld the ruling to keep in detention and refused Haneef’s arrest.
The prosecutors reportedly have an audio recording and a testimony from a government official as evidence against Haneef.
Both Haneef and Judge Usman are native to the same island, Villingili in Gaafu Alifu atoll.
