Maldives reported 104 additional cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic on Thursday.
The additional cases reported by 6pm Thursday include 76 Maldivians, 22 Bangladeshi nationals, five Indian nationals and one national from Nepal.
Two of the new cases were reported from outlying islands and 102 in the Greater Malé Region.
The new cases have pushed the country’s Covid-19 tally to 7,329.
Further, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) also reported 90 recoveries with which the number of recovered patients has risen to 4,651.
Maldives currently has 2,610 active cases out of which 1,434 are being treated at isolation facilities nationwide.
While the number of patients receiving treatment for the fatal infection at the hospital was at 162 on Wednesday, the number saw a steady rise to 180 by 6pm, Thursday.
Further, at a time authorities have assured that the safety of tourists will be ensured upon the reopening of borders after months of having closed it on March 27, on July 15, a number of tourists have tested positive for the virus since arriving in the Maldives and there has been a steady spread of the infection across outlying island as well.
As such, there are active cases in 32 residential islands and 15 resorts currently. There are 11 tourists and 19 staff members who are infected with coronavirus, in resorts currently.
