Noonu atoll Maafaru International Airport has offered services to 10 private jets since Maldives reopened its borders for international travel on July 15.

The country’s national airline, Maldivian revealed this via Twitter.

The Maafaru International Airport was officially opened during December 2019 following Maldivian having scheduled flights to the island.

Maafaru International Airport was funded under the grant provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), and was developed for a total of USD 60 million.

The airport was designed to accommodate Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircrafts and is surrounded by a number of resorts.

Following the surfacing of the global Covid-19 pandemic in the Maldives on March 7, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced that Maldives would halt issuing on-arrival visas in late March. Consecutively borders were closed on March 27 and reopened a little over three months later on July 15.
