Two arrested in connection to sexual assault case in Addu, remanded
 
Police are acting as per the set procedure, in connection to the case

The two individuals arrested in connection to a sexual assault case reported from southernmost Addu City, have been remanded.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the two men were remanded by 15 days.

Police noted that as investigations proceed, they have not identified whether there are additional individuals involved in the case, as such no further arrests have been made.

The victim in the sexual assault case was taken to Addu Equatorial Hospital for consultation and has since been transferred to Fuvahmulah City for a psychological assessment.

The institution also revealed that they taking all the required measures in connection to the case, as per the set procedures.

On August 1, the authority arrested a 19-year-old and a 30-year-old in connection to the rape case of a woman with special needs, in Addu after having initially launched investigations into the case on July 31.

The victim in this case is a 48-year-old woman with special needs.

Ever since the Kanduhulhudhoo rape case where a two-year old toddler fell victim to sexual abuse by her family members surfaced earlier this year, individuals voicing against such heinous crimes, have notably increased.

Despite the country being locked in a battle against the global Covid-19 pandemic, cases related to sexual assault, harassment and rape have been on the rise of late.
