Mul’ha Ali, magistrate at the Fuvahmulah City court has been suspended.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) made the decision to suspend the magistrate during it’s 47th meeting for 2020.
The commission released a statement on Sunday, which reads that Mul’ha was stripped from her duties for a period of two months as JSC is probing several allegations of misconduct filed against the magistrate, at the commission.
This had to be done to preserve judiciary integrity and prevent avoid any hindrances into the process that are possible so long as she remains in position.
Mul’ha has been serving at the Fuvahmulah court since her appointment during October 2018.
Local media outlets report that JSC has opened inquiry into four counts of allegations of misconduct against the magistrate, during June 2020.
The commission has been taking action against a number of judges as well as magistrates, following accusations of misconduct, in their work to reform the country's judiciary.
