Two suspected child rapists have been remanded until sentencing.

Hussain Zaheen, 33, was arrested on July 4 in relation to a blackmail and rape case of a 13-year-old girl. The Criminal Court ruled to remand him for the duration of investigation and trial, noting that he poses a threat to society.Police is currently preparing to send the case for prosecution, after completing the investigation.

Furthermore, a 23-year-old man was arrested on July 3, in relation to a rape of a minor. The man, Ahmed A’thaf, is accused of marrying an underage girl and impregnating her.

He is accused of sexual assaulting and raping the girl.

While the suspect was presented to the Muli Magistrate Court for remand hearing on Saturday, the court also ruled to keep him in custody until sentencing citing the possibility of influencing witnesses and destroying evidence.

Police is working to complete investigations in both cases, and forward them for prosecution.

While the number of reported rape and sexual assault cases continue to increase, there were two protests against rape and impunity last week. Organized by Voice of Children, the participants called to stop child and sexual abuse and ensure justice to survivors. They also called for state institutions to be held accountable.
