Two people were arrested from Fuvahmulah City on Sunday, for violating home quarantine orders.

An official from the city’s council confirmed this, adding that one of the individuals have been remanded for a 14-day period.

While authorities had previously allowed individuals to travel back to outlying islands from the capital after 14 days in a ‘transit’ quarantine facility, it recent began letting people travel directly under the condition of a 14-day home quarantine period.

Further, they will only be released after testing negative for Covid-19. As such, samples are to be collected a day after the quarantine period ends, with results to be made available within 71 hours.

Following Sunday’s incident, the Fuvahmulah City called on all returnees to follow HPA’s guidelines for the safety of the entire community.

An individual who was under home quarantine in Maamendhoo island of Gaafu Alif tested positive for the virus last week, as well as two others that were quarantined with him after returning from the capital. 13 people have been quarantined in relation to the case.

While Maldives is in phase two of the Covid-19 lockdown ease plan, unauthorized travel between islands is still prohibited at this stage.
