The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has revealed that 29 employees at the People’s Majlis have been isolated following contact tracing conducted after an employee at the premises, tested positive for Covid-19.

Speaking to press on Thursday night, the task force’s spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz revealed that contact tracing is still ongoing and that 29 contacts have been identified thus far.

On Wednesday, the parliament’s Secretary General Fathmath Niusha confirmed the matter to RaajjeMV and since then, a disinfection programme began at the premises which was closed down following the discovery.

Majlis has since confirmed that they are working to implement all the safety and precautionary measures required.

Majlis work will proceed once all the precautionary measures under the set guidelines, are put in place, reads a statement by the parliament.

Highlighting that precautionary measures were placed before beginning work, in the case such a situation surfaces, Majlis revealed that they aim to proceed with work alongside the measures required against the pandemic.

Majlis employs a total of 140 individuals.

Sittings were held online from March 30 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, they resumed at the chamber in late May with the approval from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) under new guidelines.
