An individual under home quarantine in Maamendhoo island of Gaafu Alif atoll has tested positive for Covid-19.
Confirming this to RaajjeMV, Gaafu Alif atoll Council President Ahmed Fuad said that a 28-year-old man who was placed under home quarantine after returning to the island on June 13.
Covid-19 taskforce’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz shared details of the case at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC)’s nightly press conference on Thursday.
Mabrook said that the man arrived in the capital from Maamendhoo on May 31, accompanying a person who required medical treatment.
He was tested for Covid-19 on June 6, and the results had come back negative.
While the man is to have stayed in a guesthouse in the capital with two family members, he is to have travelled back to Maamendhoo with the two on June 13. They are to have travelled via flight through Kooddoo, and Mabrook said that the rest of the passengers on the flight had travelled to Gemanafushi island in the same atoll.
He is to have exhibited Covid-19 like symptoms and informed authorities on June 14, and his samples were taken the same day which arrived in the capital city on June 15; the test results came back positive on Thursday.
Mabrook said that contact tracing underway in both Maamendhoo and Gemanafushi islands.
The spokesperson further said that officials will only decide on imposing restrictive measures on the islands, after completing the contact tracing period, adding that the reason for this is as everyone that travelled via the same flight are under home quarantine.
