UAE donates medical equipment worth USD five million, to Maldives
The free aid weighing about 72 tonnes arrived in the Maldives on Monday
It was delivered via a special cargo flight arranged by the UAE government
FM Shahid thanked the UAE government “for the generous donation of essential medical supplies and equipment”

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated medical equipment worth USD five million to the Maldives.

The foreign ministry said that the free aid weighing about 72 tonnes arrived in the Maldives on a special cargo flight arranged by the UAE government.

The ministry further noted that the donations include a real time PCR system, a PCR extraction machine, Covid-19 diagnostic extraction kit, PCR test kits, personal protective equipment as well as hand sanitizer.

  • 100,000 bottles of hand sanitizer
  • 225,000 KN 95 masks
  • 2,500,000 surgical masks
  • 5,000 boxes of gloves (100 gloves per box)
  • 75,000 disposable gowns (incl. shoe covers)
  • 10,000 face shields
  • PCR extraction machine
  • 30,000 diagnostic extraction kits
  • Two real-time PCR systems

Following the donation, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid thanked the UAE government “for the generous donation of essential medical supplies and equipment”. He added that UAE is “an invaluable friend and partner of the Maldives, time and time again”.

Shahid and his counterpart from UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, spoke via telephone in early April, and discussed the impacts of the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak and the measures being implemented by both nations to ensure the safety of the people.
